DESIGNED TO LAST

Caring for Your Kipekee Studio Furniture

At Kipekee Studio, we design and craft furniture to be lived with for years to come. Proper care and maintenance will help preserve the natural beauty, finish, and longevity of your solid wood furniture, allowing it to age gracefully and develop its own character over time.

Our wooden furniture is designed with both indoor and outdoor living in mind. Unless otherwise specified, our timber is sealed with Jax Oleum, a protective coating that nourishes and safeguards the wood while helping to protect it from everyday wear.

Designed to Last

Natural timber is a living material. Changes in temperature, humidity, light, and use can naturally influence the appearance and movement of wood over time.
These subtle changes are part of the character of solid wood furniture and are one of the reasons we love working with natural materials.

With considered care, regular maintenance, and the right environment, your Kipekee Studio furniture can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

If you have any questions about caring for your Kipekee furniture, need advice on a particular timber or finish, or believe your piece requires refurbishment, please get in touch with our team.
We're always happy to help you care for your furniture for the long term.

Everyday Wooden Furniture Care

To help prevent premature degradation, avoid placing your furniture in areas exposed to excessive moisture, rapid changes in temperature, or prolonged direct sunlight.

For regular cleaning:

  • Dust your furniture regularly using a soft, dry cloth.
  • Occasionally wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth.
  • In the event of a spill, blot the area promptly, wipe gently with a damp cloth, and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, household cleaning products, polish, wax, oil, or stains unless specifically recommended by Kipekee Studio.

Maintaining Your Timber Furniture

We recommend applying Jax Oleum Maintenance Oil to maintain and nourish your timber furniture.

For indoor furniture, maintenance oil should generally be applied annually.

For outdoor furniture, we recommend maintenance approximately twice a year, as outdoor timber is exposed to greater changes in weather and environmental conditions.

Choose the appropriate maintenance oil for your timber:

  • Maintenance Oil – White: Recommended for lighter timbers such as White Oak and White Ash.
  • Maintenance Oil – Clear: Recommended for darker timbers such as Walnut, Iroko, and Teak.

How to Apply Maintenance Oil

  1. Clean the timber surface with a soft cloth. For heavily soiled areas, 400-grit sandpaper may be used gently where necessary.
  2. Apply a small amount of maintenance oil to the clean, dry surface using a mutton cloth.
  3. Allow the oil to settle for a few minutes.
  4. Wipe away any excess oil using a clean mutton cloth.

Refurbishing Your Wooden Furniture

Over time, well-loved furniture may require more than routine maintenance. If your Kipekee Studio furniture requires a full refurbishment or the existing sealant needs to be removed, please contact us before beginning the process. We can advise on the most appropriate approach for your piece.

Where refurbishment is appropriate, the process involves:

  1. Sanding the surface with 100-grit sandpaper until the previous sealant has been removed and damaged areas are smooth.
  2. Repeating the sanding process with 150-grit sandpaper to further refine the surface.
  3. Cleaning the timber with a mutton cloth to remove all sanding dust.
  4. Applying Jax Oleum One Part Sealant to the surface using a clean mutton cloth.
  5. Allowing the sealant to settle for a few minutes.
  6. Wiping away any excess sealant with a clean mutton cloth.
